Pleasant View Home, a growing and progressive elder care facility located in the heart of Kansas, chose MatrixCare® for its medical records and financial software solution in early 2012. “As a provider who is dedicated to quality care and service to our residents, we felt the need to take our medical records to the next level,” said Jalane White, Administrator at Pleasant View Home. MatrixCare is a web-based EHR solution designed to help long-term care providers deliver superior care resulting in better outcomes for their residents. After considerable research and comparison of four different vendors, MatrixCare went live in the 124-skilled bed facility in February.

White added, “We wanted a quality product that had proven success in the industry. Once we saw the functionality and performance of MatrixCare, it comprehensively had the most to offer. As the Administrator, I find it so helpful to be at my desk and look at a resident’s record and to be able to see a diagnosis, various patient documents, etc. It saves the legwork of having to go find the chart and sift through it. Ease of use was also important. Many of our younger workforce welcomed MatrixCare, but it was interesting to see others that had not even used a computer before, quickly learn and efficiently use the system.”

“Once the decision was made to move to MatrixCare, the implementation and training process went smoothly,” said Daryl Regier, Director of IT. “We had weekly contact with the implementation manager and the whole process was very professional and well-planned. With the use of webinars and live training, on-site and off, the staff training was well coordinated and very effective.”

White pointed out, “Since using MatrixCare, there is more efficient communication between staff members.” MatrixCare’s Resident Messaging allows clinical staff to stay on top of changes in resident conditions across the facility or unit by providing an at-a-glance view of resident activity, such as census, physician orders, medication safety alerts, documents/results received, and events. White added, “The Events feature of MatrixCare is so thorough and leads us from one question to another.” Event documentation is integrated including the documentation details, vital signs, facility-defined protocols, orders, and progress notes to simplify coordination of care and ensure proper follow-up, thus reducing potential litigation risks.

Pleasant View implemented the full clinical suite including Point of Care and eMAR, mobile technology that aids in accurate documentation and better communication as well as ensures the safety and frequency of medication administered. “Since going live last year, our staff has been pleased,” said Regier. “Our MDS Coordinator reported that she is ‘happy as a clam’ and staff is really happy using eMAR. In addition to that, our interfaces with CMS and CareTracker are running without a hitch.” Regier added, “When we do need to call support, the MatrixCare support staff is very responsive and easy to work with. Response time to questions has been great!”
