• Clinical Advanced Insights intelligently predicts fall risk and changing acuity levels among skilled nursing residents, synthesizing insights into easy-to-understand, real-time dashboards for immediate interventions
  • New EHR-embedded machine learning tool for predicting falls in nursing homes is designed to empower nurses to provide more proactive care, help prevent injuries and hospitalizations, improve efficiencies, and reduce risk

October 7, 2021 – MatrixCare today unveiled Clinical Advanced Insights, a machine learning tool that uses artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to identify and alert skilled nursing facility staff to changes in residents’ conditions and fall risk.

Today, most clinical staff have to rely on rounds and sifting through disparate charts, screens and data to develop individual assessments about their residents’ acuity levels and fall risk, the leading cause of injury and injury death for adults over 65 years of age and a $50 billion/year problem in the U.S. Integrated seamlessly into the workflow of MatrixCare’s electronic health record (EHR), Clinical Advanced Insights removes the manual burden and guesswork associated with these dangerous and costly challenges.

Trained with tens of millions of data points, Clinical Advanced Insights analyzes a broad set of unique data elements, including resident demographics, active diagnoses, medications, Braden assessments, and fall history. It’s clear, easy-to-understand dashboards provide clinical staff with real-time insight into changing acuity levels and fall risk. Facility staff can drill down into each by floor, wing, or resident and view individual risk factors as well as changes in condition over a period of time. Armed with this information, nursing leaders and staff can easily onboard temporary agency nurses and confidently focus their time on residents with the highest risk for a fall.

“As skilled nursing facilities struggle against record labor shortages and increased workloads, MatrixCare’s Clinical Advanced Insights represents a better way to deliver proactive, compassionate care, while optimizing limited resources and managing costs and risks,” said MatrixCare President and CEO Steve Pacicco. “We’re always looking for new ways to leverage data to help inform faster and better clinical, operational, and financial decision-making so that providers can spend more time caring for their residents and less time behind a screen. Specifically, we are increasingly focused on prevention – preventing falls or an acute event – as the best way to ensure our customers remain preferred referral destinations and are successful in a value-based environment. Clinical Advanced Insights is a massive leap forward in support of this mission, which we will build upon as we continue to innovate to help our customers through current and future challenges.”

PruittHealth, which serves approximately 24,000 patients daily across more than 180 locations, recently signed on for a full deployment of the solution after a successful three-month pilot. Focusing its pilot on skilled nursing residents who had experienced more than one fall in a 30-day period, Pruitt was able to reduce the number of falls among those residents at one of its facilities to zero, saving them from possible injuries, hospitalizations or even death, while reducing costs.

“Clinical Advanced Insight’s at-a-glance dashboards have become a critical component of our staff’s daily routines,” said Annette Salisbury, senior vice president of clinical services at PruittHealth. “With staffing shortages, we’re increasingly relying on staff from sister facilities and agency staff who are unfamiliar with our residents. Upon starting their shift, the staff from sister facilities and agency staff can now easily review any changes in condition or fall risk among our residents and use that information to confidently structure their shift. These dashboards, along with the 24-hour alert system are transforming how efficient and effective our nurses can be, even with fewer resources.”

MatrixCare’s Clinical Advanced Insights is now available to MatrixCare skilled nursing facility customers. The solution will be on display at the 72nd AHCA/NCAL Convention & Expo in Washington D.C. at booth #901 from October 10-13, 2021. For more information, visit www.matrixcare.com/advancedinsights.
